China Abstract Objective To investigate the impact of health education on improving the health knowledge and establishing healthy lifestyle for patients with hypertension. Methods A systematic health education program was conducted on 100 hypertensive patients from August to December 2011, and the changes in their health knowledge and lifestyle were observed. Results The health knowledge score was improved from 10.48 ± 0.82 to 17.10 ± 1.21 (P 0.05). The scores of sub-catalogues such as health responsibilities, dietary and physical exercise were also improved obviously, and the differences were statistically signifi cant (P 0.05). In addition, the score of healthy lifestyle was improved from 18.65 ± 1.38 to 25.91 ± 2.25, and the differences were also signifi cant (P 0.05). Conclusion Long-term systematic health education programs in communities can effectively improve the health knowledge and establish healthy lifestyle offor patients with hypertension patients.
