Its pathogenesis is still not very clear. To understand the similarities and differ- ences of retinal pigment epithelial cell structure and function of the macular and peripheral retin- al regions is to contribute to our understanding of the pathogenesis of age-related macular dege- neration. It will lead us to find new treatment and prevention of disease as early as possible.
