Review nouns that form regular plurals (by adding s) with “what’s wrong?” Here are some nouns that form regular plurals that the students already know : book, chair, pencil, pen, girl, boy, desk, school, teacher, eraser, , marker, arm, ear, eye, leg, hand, finger, toe, apple, banana, orange, skirt, hat, car, truck, bicycle, cat, dog, duck, chicken, letter and stamp.

INTRODUCE
Remind the students about the word “dishes” from the last unit. The singular form of “dishes” is “dish.” So, to make this word plural, you add es, not just s. Explain that there are other words like this in English. Write “box,” “class,” “glass,” “bus” and “dress” on the blackboard. What is similar about these words? (They end in x, s or sh.) If you try to make them plural by just adding s, they are hard to pronounce! (How do you say glasses or boxes?!) In English, it’s easier to say es than s at the end of these words. Demonstrate by adding es and then saying: dishes, boxes, classes, glasses, buses, dresses.

PRACTICE
Play “Tic-Tac-Toe” to practice regular and irregular plurals. Before the students write on the grid, they must say and write the correct plural for nouns I call out. Include the es plurals I covered above, any regular plurals the students know, and “men,” “women” and “children.”
