The sensors only cover the adjacent lanes (left/right) New operating facilities: Rear view + Audi side assist calibration In vehicles with a factory-fitted towing bracket, the system is automatically switched off when the connection is established. The Audi side assist display consists of 4 LEDs. The width of the lane is not measured by Audi side assist; instead, the system assumes a fixed lane width. This lane width is covered on the left and right. In the case of narrow lanes or the vehicles not travelling centrally within its lane, there is the possibility that vehicles not located in the directly adjacent lane will be indicated as critical. On winding routes, Audi side assist operates up to a minimal curve radius of approx. 170 metres. If the curve radius falls below the 170 m limit, Audi side assist switches to deactivated status, as the radar beams which are emitted no longer cover the full 50 metres of the rear monitoring range. The Audi side assist control unit calculates the current curve radius via the yaw rate and the individual wheel speeds, which it obtains from the ESP control unit.
