Sokolov** ( Preferential Subject 1 ) ( Preferential Subject 2 ) (Special Reporters) INTRODUCTION Transformers are critical assets in TD systems. In the competitive increasing market, these transformers are subjected to larger average loading and more frequent overloading in combination with some reduction of maintenance program. The result of these changing operating conditions is that more thermal stresses are imposed on the transformers affecting its reliability and lifetime. Age of important transformer population has now or will exceed soon 25-30 years, namely the term, which has been traditionally assumed as transformer life span. Apparently the global task of the electric power industry will be to manage the serviceability of a huge aged transformer population in order to get the most out of the asset. One way to accomplish this is to promote the most appropriate on-site actions to ensure the longest possible service life.
