Kinds of the Adverb ⑴Adverb of time ①Time when something happened ; such as ;before, just now, lately, today, now, then, so far ②something happens frequently we often use Adverbs of frequency to represent it. Always, continuously ,generally ,often, much, sometimes, seldom ③some words which are related to time Finally, since, already, immediately ,right away ,soon ,early ⑵Adverb of place ①Adverb about the place Here, there, home, downstairs, anywhere, abroad ②Adverb concerning the relationship of the direction or position Above, below, down, up ,out ,off ,inside, outside Note: Some Adverb can be used as preposition. If it can take an object, it must be preposition;If not it is Adverb ----He is in. ----Class is over. ----Time is up. ----They stay outside. ⑶Adverb of manner ①+ly carefully,peacefully,quietly,politely,heavily,formally ②well, fast, slow ,hard ,alone, high, straight, wide etc. Sometimes they’re used as adjective but meanings are sometimes different ----They’ve done it well. ----I am not feeling well today. ----That’s a high building. ----The plane can fly high. ----It’s a straight road. ----Let’s go straight home. ⑷Adverb of degree It often modifies adjective or adverb. Much,little,a bit, very, so ,too, enough, quite,fairly, extremely ,entirely ,greatly,absolutely ⑸interrogative adverb, conjunctive adverb and relative adverb Interrogative adverb often takes a question sentence: how, when, where ,why ----How are you getting on with your studies? ----Where are you going?... conjunctive adverb can take a subjective clause, an objective clause or a predicative clause: how ,when, where ,why ---This is where he is going. ---Where he stays for vacation is uncertain. ---I don’t know when they will have a meeting. relative adverb can take an attributive clause: where, when ,why ----This is the place where I was born. ----I forgot the time when I worked in the factory. ----That is the reason why he was late for school. ⑹sentence
