Based on the random vibration theory, the effects of additional pillar stiffness and additional damping on the dynam ical characteristics of themega-structure and sub-structure subjected to horizontal groundmo- tion are exam ined. Conditional relations bewt een the wt o parameters are analyzed. And the response pow ers among the traditionalmega-frame, the mega-subcontrolled frame w ithout add itional damp ing and the mega-subcontrolled frame w ith additional damp ing are investigated comparatively. Resu lts show that the mega-subcontrolled fram ew ith reasonable additional damping possess transcendental earthquake-resistant ability, and that the add itional pillar stiffness can not only affect the dynam ical responses of them ega-structure and the sub-structures but alsomake the optmi um add itional damping change.
