Colours were more natural: Curry, paprika and olive were en vogue for surfaces and textiles. The same also applies to brown tones such as nougat and light and dark chocolate. Living rooms: The oak theme is not a new one, but has only really started to catch on. The familiar stripey-grain finish was much in evidence, as was also oak with a rippling effect. A new variation involving extremely dark brown colouration (similar to wengé) also appears to have emerged. There was also a noticeable trend towards high gloss surfaces and new colours, and colour in general was in greater evidence as compared to grey and white. Shiny black was encountered in combination with glass and stainless steel, and kitchen unit fronts presented themselves in new brown hues. Not much cherry was seen, however, and only sparing use was made of walnut. Kitchens: Above and beyond this, aluminium was being used for more and more applications, and is apparently gaining ground in kitchen use. Use of stainless steel as a means of achieving a simple but tasteful effect also appeared to be re-emerging.
