Clinically effective, integrated neuropsychological services offer cost effective treatments for patients with complex neurological needs across the lifespan.” Clinical Neuropsychology Services - delivering value for the NHS. A briefing paper for NHS commissioners policy makers, Division of Neuropsychology, 2015 Neurological conditions, emotional wellbeing and the current state of play in health and social care… NHS and Social Services under increasing pressure… Mental health services are not well attuned to the needs of people with neurological conditions… Patients with neurological conditions should be provided with specialist, person centred, emotional support and evidence WITHIN their medical pathway Neurological population have complex issues…lifestyle changes, physical disability, cognitive difficulties, prospect of deterioration, emotional and behavioural issues due to neural changes, emotional issues as a consequence of difficulties… It is recognised that Neuropsychology services are essential to providing comprehensive cognitive and emotional support and that significant investment is required to enhance national neuropsychological provision (National Clinical Guideline for Stroke, 5th Edition, 2016) Creating an effective NHS Neuropsychology therapy service (with what you’ve got!) Build a solid foundation: Champions… Enthusiasm… Consolidate interpersonal relationships… Shared goals/vision… Innovate: Partnerships (clinical and research) New interventions – pilot, finesse Consultation Supervision
