Unit 3　Inventors and inventions Period 4　Listening and Speaking 整体设计教学内容分析 The emphasis of this period will be placed on listening and speaking.There are altogether two texts for the students to listen to in this period：one is in the Students Book and the other is in the Workbook.The first one（on Page 26，Listening and speaking）is a telephone interview between Zhou Rui and one of the engineers in James Dysons company.James Dyson is a British inventor，who invented a system with two drums in the same machine.Zhou Rui is interviewing one of the engineers in his company about his ideas.While listening to the text for the first time the students are asked to get some specific information about it and tick the words they hear.While listening to the text for a second time the students are asked to fill in the chart.At last the students are asked to make a telephone call to one of the engineers in James Dysons company and apply for a job in the company. The second one（on Page 62，Listening）is a conversation about how to choose a suitable mobile phone.Ruth Bacon is thinking of buying a new mobile phone and she wants to ask Zhang Jie for some advice. 三维目标设计 Knowledge and skills 1．To understand the meanings of the following key words and expressions while hearing them on the tape：founder（创建者），hand-washing（手洗），carpet cleaner（地毯清洁工），videotape（录像），switch off（关闭）． 2．To enable the students to understand the listening texts. 3．To help the students learn how to make a phone call using the given key sentences. Process and methods 1．Smoothing away language problems if any before listening. Before asking the students to listen to the tape，help them smooth away any language problems such as new words and expressions that they may not understand while listening. 2．Listening for needed information. Before asking the students to listen to the tape for the first time give them one or two questions about the general idea of the text so as to lead the students to concentrate their mind only on
