AbstractAtpresent,thetechnologiesofadhesivebonding,machinerivetingandfusion bondingareoftenusedfortheconnectionofFRTPandthatofFRTPandaluminum alloy,buteachhasitslimitations.Inthispaper,thetechnologyoffrictionstirwelding isusedfortheweldingofhomogenousFRTPandthatofFRTPandaluminumalloy. ForfrictionstirweldingofhomogenousFRTP,theinfluenceofweldingprocess parametersonweldformation,micro-morphologyandmechanicalpropertywas investigated,andfracturewasanalyzedbySEM.ForfrictionstirweldingofFRTP andaluminumalloy,theinfluenceofrelativepositionofdissimilarmaterials,offset andtheplungedepthofshoulderonweldformationwasinvestigated.Themain findings were as following:ExperimentsofFRTPfrictionstirweldingshowedthat:Whileplungedepthof shoulder,rotationalspeedandweldingspeedmatchedeachother,plasticmaterialof nuggetcouldbefullyplasticizedandfreely flow,andthengoodformationweldcould begot;Theresultsofthetensilepropertyshowedthat:Whentheplungedepthof shoulderwas0.15mm,rotationalspeedwas750r/min,weldingspeedwas38mm/min, weldedjointsstrengthachievesmaximum,upto45.56MPa,whichwas44.23%ofthe basematerialstrength.Fromtheobservationofthefracturecrosssection,joint breakedbetweenAdvancingSideThermalMechanicalAffectedZoneandNugget, whichshowedthisareawastheweakestofjoint.SEMobservationsshowedthat, micro-fracturemechanismofthebasematerialwascarbonfiberfractureand interfacialdebondingoffiberandthematrix,micro-fracturemechanismofthejoint was the matrixshear fractureand interfacial debondingof fiber and the matrix.ExperimentsofFRTPandaluminumalloyfrictionstirlapweldingshowedthat: Whilealuminumalloywasplacedbelow,jointformationispoor,andeffective connectioncouldnotbeobtained.Whilealuminumalloywasplacedabove,the beautifulformationweldscouldbeobtained.Whentheplungedepthofshoulderwas 0.16mm,rotationalspeedwas750r/min,welding speedwas30mm/min,weldedjoints strengthachievesmaximum,upto18.65MPa,whichwas71.46%ofbonding strength.
