Definition -mood disorders Mood disorders are a group of mental disorders characterized by obvious and persistent elation or depression of mood. The mood disturbance is commonly associated with cognitive and behavioral changes. There is a tendency for the disorders to recur, but most recurrent episodes will eventually remit. In certain cases, an episode may become chronic and residual symptoms are observed. Type- mood disorders 1. Depressive Disorders Major depression (unipolar depression) Dysthymic Disorder Depressive Disorders Not Otherwise Specified 2. Bipolar Disorders Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar I Disorder Bipolar II Disorder Cyclothymic Disorder Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified Cyclothymic Disorder(环性心境障碍) Cyclothymic disorder is characterized by manic and depressive states not of sufficient severity or duration to meet the criteria for either bipolar disorder or major depression. Its course should be 2 years, but within the 2 years the mood may be normal for several months(2 months). Dysthymic Disorder(恶劣心境) Dysthymic Disorder describe a loss of interest or pleasure in most activities of daily life but do not have symptoms severe enough to meet the criteria for major depressive episode. There are no manic symptoms at the same times. Its course should be at least 2 years.
