Located along the Mediterranean Sea, it became one of the largest empires in the ancient world. Introduction In its centuries of existence, Roman civilization shifted from a monarchy(君主国) to a republic, and then to an increasingly empire. It came to dominate South-Western Europe, South-Eastern Europe/Balkans and the Mediterranean region through conquest and assimilation(同化). According to legend, Rome was founded April 21, 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a she-wolf Part 1 The History of Rome Legends Part 1 The History of Rome Legends Another legend recorded that Prince Aeneas led a group of Trojans on a sea voyage. After a long time in rough seas, they landed at the banks of the Tiber River (台伯河 - 意大利中部,流经罗马).
