Arpincontributes tobacterialtranslocation anddevelopmentofsevere acutepancreatitisAbstractAIM:Thisstudyassessedthe impactofArpinproteinandtightjunction(TJ)proteinsintheintestinalmucosaonbacterialtranslocationinpatientswithsevereacutepancreatitis(SAP).METHODS:Fifty SAPpatientswereidentifiedasstudyobjectsand thenclassifiedintotwogroupsaccordingtothepresenceofbacterialtranslocation(BT)intheblood[i.e.,BT(+)andBT(-)].Twentyhealthyindividualswereincludedinthecontrolgroup.BTwasanalyzedbypolymerasechainreaction,colonicmucosaltissuewasobtainedbyendoscopyandtheexpressionofTJproteinsandArpinproteinwasdeterminedusingImmunohistochemistryandWesternblotting.RESULTS:BacterialDNAwasdetectedintheperipheralbloodof62.0%ofpatients(31/50)withSAP.TheexpressionofTJproteinsinSAPpatientswas lowerthanthatinhealthycontrols.
