It is said that Austin’ family is relatively richer than Bronte’s. Austin is considered more a pretty girl of humble birth, but Bronte is a woman suffering more. In this way, Elizabeth created by Austin express emotions less directly than Jane. Indeed, Elizabeth still shares some characteristics of the ladies of that time. Jane Austin and Charlotte Bronte do create great works for us and help us to make a thorough understanding of the period of the time they lived, as well as the history of feminism. From the novel Pride and Prejudice to Jane Eyre, the awareness of feminism has got great progress. Since just from the comparison of the heroines, we can learn much, we may find deeper hidden meanings in the two famous works. Elizabeth rejects flatly the two proposals from her brother and Darcy at the risk of being single all her life and laughed at by the people around her. There seems a conviction deeply rooted in her heart that her marriage should make her happy rather than bring a big fortune or profit. As for Jane, a classic dialogue comes, “Do you think I can watch another woman become your bride? Do you think, because I’m small and poor and plain, that I have no soul or heart? Well, you are absolutely wrong! I have as much soul and heart as you! It is my spirit that speaks to your spirit! We are equal in the sight of God!” Just imagine the expressions and tones when she speaks, and you’ll have a strong feeling of her character, really, a strong character. The talks in Darcy’s aunt’s home end up with Elizabeth’s humor and his aunt’s astonishment and discrimination. Elizabeth and her sisters are never received formal education or family tutoration, which appall 惊骇the man’s aunt, but she just says it in a neither haughty nor humble way.
