Since one tries to get the first-handed information, one must have to know English, a variety of types of qualification tests for English come into being. Among all the foreign language tests, the interpreting tests lag behind due to its limitation of needs and high requirements for the test takers. However, it now stands out and weighs much along with the development of China, during which more and more interactive communications with foreign countries are of growing needs.There are increasing situations where interpreters are badly needed; as a result the interpreting qualification tests are inevitable to help sort out the qualified and competent interpreters. Nowadays, there are many types of interpreting tests booming in China, some of which are even proposed by language training center and have no authority to detect the qualification of the candidates. Although the good and bad are slightly intermingled, of all the interpreting tests, the most popular and well-established interpreting tests in China are acknowledged: China Aptitude Test for Translators and Interpreters – CATTI, National Accreditation Examinational for Translators and Interpreters - NAETI, and Shanghai Post Credential for Intermediate/Advanced Interpreters, among the three of which, CATTI is within the author’s concern, and will be evaluated in the thesis.First launched in December, 2003, CATTI
