ABSTRACTBeinganew-typemooringsystemappliedfordeepwaters,syntheticfibreropesareemployedinthetaut-wiremooringsystemasmainpartofmooringlines.Underthecomplicatedoceanenvironment,thenonlinearmechanicalpropertiesofthesyntheticfiberropesincludingthetime-dependentbehaviors(creep-recoverybehaviors),specialcyclictension-elongationrelationship,dynamicstiffnessandfatiguepropetiesetal.closelyrelatetotheperformanceandsafetyofthesystem.Itisofvitalimportanceandsignificanttoobtaindeeplyknowledgeofthesepropertiesforthedeepwaterapplicationofthetaut-wiremooringsystem.Basedontheprofoundinsightandforwardlookingknowledgeofthekeycharacteristicsofthetaut-wiremooringsystem,thecreep-recoverybehaviors,cyclicpropertiesofthefiberropesandthedynamicresponseandfatiguelifeofthetaut-wiremooringsystemhavebeenstudiedsystematicallythroughtheoreticalandexperimentalmethods.Themainresearchworksandcreativeachievementsareasfollows:Firstly,inordertostudythecyclicmechanicalpropertiesofthefiberropes,anew-typehorizontalmodelexperimentalsystemwhichcanperformthecyclicloadingonthesyntheticfiberropesisdesignedandsetup,whichisafirstoneinChina.Itshouldbenotedthat,intheinternationalfield,themodelexperimentalsystemhasthreehighlights:(1)Anewmeasurementsystemcombinedwiththeaxletree,magnentandwiretransducer,whichhaveself-protectedfunction,hasbeendesignedandsetuptomeasuretheactualelongationofthefiberropes;(2)Anewwatercyclingsystemisdesignedandsetuptosimulatethewaterenvironmentinwhichthefiberropesfullyimmersedduringtheengineeringapplication;(3)thelaboratorymodelexperimentalsystemcombinedwiththemachineryandservo-controlledmachineshastheadvantagesofconvenientinstalltionandtransportation,lowcostsandenergyetal.Secondly,themechanicalpropertiesofsyntheticfiberropesundercyclicloadingincludingthetension-elongationrelationshipandhysteresisproperties,theevolutionofthedynamicstiffnessandresidualstrain,arestudiedindetailonthemodelexperimentalsystem.Theinfluenceofthemeanloadandstrainamplitudeisanalyzedanddiscussedindetail.Besides,therese
