(better!) • rules for comparisons – adjectives • based on the number of syllables in the adjective – adverbs Scientific Writing: Lecture 5a #3 Comparisons of adjectives • single syllable words – add –er (or –r) – A is XXXer than B • the spacing of A is larger than that of B • “A” has a larger spacing than B • large / larger • small / smaller • big / bigger • green / greener • but – round / rounder (correct, but more round better…)
