EFFECTS OF RAILWAY WIND FENCE ON THE AERODYNAMIC FORCES
OF TRAIN AND FENCE

Abstract :Cross wind has serious influence on the safety of the running train, which can
significantly reduce the stability of the train, even cause derailment or overturning. Building
windbreak along the railway in strong wind area is a rational method to reduce the dangerous of cross
wind to the train. Compared with the conventional solid windbreak, the wind fences, which are made
of porous panel, have many benefits. In the presented paper, numerical simulations are used to
achieve the aerodynamic forces of train and fences at the action of strong crosswind.

1 INTRODUCTION
Cross wind has serious influence on the safety of
the running trains, which can significantly reduce
the stability of the train, even cause derailment or
overturning. Building windbreak along the
railway in strong wind area is a rational method to
reduce the dangerous of cross wind to the train.
Compared with the conventional solid windbreak,
the wind fences, which are made of porous panel,
have many benefits, such as low cost, fast
