AbstractThe development of economy and society can`t separate from the infrastructure`s improving. The bay bridge has become an indispensable part of rapid coastal transportation network. Since the last decade, several large-scale tsunami, hurricanes and typhoons occurred around the world, especially Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina in thehad caused a great deal of coastal bridge destruction. Bay bridge was in a complex state that wave action, the action of water and wind were coupled. Studying the coastal bridge`s behavior in the extreme wave action has significant meaning in design, construction and protection of it.In this paper, experiment was designed to simulate the extreme wave. The relationships between forces and wave height, period were explored. The main contents include:Study the shallow wave effect on wave parameters according wave theory. As bay bridge mostly located in the shallow waters, the wave simulation in the test should be consistent with the shallow water wave conditions. The experimental results show that the laboratory wave simulation meet the requirements well.Damaged were found mostly in the low-lying spans, the 20 m T bridge recommended by the Ministry of Transportation was selected as a prototype to design the specimen. According to Froude criteria a 1:10 scale was selected that promise wave simulation well.The experiment was conducted according to the experiment plan. The relationships between forces and wave height, period were explored in this part. Difference between the test data and the model suggested by other researchers were explained.
