AcknowledgementsI am greatly indebted to Professor SHI Zhikang．my supervisor, who has taken great pains in reshaping my paper to a great extent．The thesis presented here would never have come into being without his tremendous help and encouragement．Among the many benefits Ive got from him，are his original and unique ways in his insightful opinionsand his timely suggestions．Besides，I have truly enjoyed and benefited agreat deal from pleasant discussions with him.i中文摘要随着中文及中国文化逐渐被各国学者普及研究，近年来中外学者对中国的古 典文学作品的英译研究越发得到了重视。《史记》作为中国历史学文学史上一颗 璀璨的明珠，已经有多个英文翻译的版本。对《史记》翻译的分析研究，不仅可 以对《史记》的翻译起到指导的作用，更重要的是这些研究可以运用到其他的历 史作品翻译中去。《史记》是一部及文学性和真实性为一体的著作。如何完整全面的翻译其内 涵是关键。本文首先讨论了三组翻译法，即：归化和异化，增译法和减译法，以 及直译和意译。本文的观点是翻译应当功能对等，基于这个观点就这三组翻译方 法进行分析，指出需要这三组翻译方法相互结合叠加，才能使《史记》的英译更 能够体现出它本身的文学及史学的价值。接着文章对《史记》两个英译版本进行了比较分析。其中一个版本由华兹生 教授所译，另一个版本由杨宪益、戴乃迭所译。本文对样本按照不同的语法手段 及修辞方法等进行了分类，并对其进行了对比分析。大量实例证明了，上述的三组翻译方法相结合，为《史记》的翻译提供了有 力的理论指导。以归化为主但是必须要与异化相结合。直译与意译相互配合。根 据语境进行增译或减译，实现翻译功能对等是对《史记》的还原。 最后，文章就《史记》以及其他历史类作品的具体翻译实践提出了一些建议。关键词：《史记》；翻译功能对等；翻译法iiAbstractThe translation of classic Chinese literatures has been enjoying increasing popularity among Chinese and foreign scholars in recent years, with growing prosperity of Chinese economy and the increasing number of people ready to embrace Chinese language and culture. throughout the world. The Shijiis one of the most important literary and historic classics in China and has been rendered into the English language which has several versions . To study the translations of the Shiji is not only to optimize the translation of the Shiji but also to sum up some proper translation methods which might be applied to the translating practice of other classics in Chinese literature.The Shiji is the perfect combination of real historical events and literary language.
