思乡情结——《哈克费恩历险记》主题再阐述-homesickness complex - re - elaboration on the theme of huck finns adventures

While Twain lost himself in the tide of materialism and pragmatism, Huck manages to maintain his innocence and personal integrity, by neglecting money, resisting the hypocritical adult world, cherishing love and friendship. Finally, by means of the psychological conception of nostalgia, the thesis analyzes the reasons for those differences. Nostalgia appears at the time when someone feels unsatisfied to the reality, but he or she cannot know how to deal with it properly. Therefore they might beautify some part of their life experience of sometime in some place. In fact, the experience might not as sweet as they thought, but it is like a magic dream which can help those who want to escape from the ruthless and cruel society and let them have peaceful mind.Through analysis, the thesis argues that both Huck and the raft are nostalgic symbols for Twain. In real life, Twain acted according to social conventions and spent his whole life chasing after money, trying to achieve worldly success, only to be alienated in the end. However, rather than been alienated by social conventions, Huck lived a simple and happy life, preserved his innocence, and always managed to remain true to himself and acted according to his own innermost feelings and judgment. Without the restraint of money, class, and the color of skin, the small raft on the Mississippi is a peaceful land of freedom for both Huck and Jim, and a nostalgic home for Twain himselfIn short, by means of nostalgia, Twain shows his sense of weakness in the face of dark reality and expresses his deep longing for integrity, humanity and freedom The conclusion deepens understanding of the theme of the novel, the author himself, and the times he lives in.Key words: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; Mark Twain; nostalgia; pragmatism; materialism; freedomNOSTALGIA:A REINTERPRETATION OF THE THEME OF THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN2AcknowledgementsFirst of all, I would like to express my most sincere gratitude to my su
