The Expedition objective for Yukon Venture 2007 was a ski ascent of Mt?Logan in the Canadian Yukon. At 5959m (19?550ft) above sea level, Mt Logan is the highest mountain in Canada and the second highest in North America. When measured around its circumference, Mt Logan is the largest mountain massif in the world, being 25 miles long and 2 miles above its surroundings. It is also extremely remote, requiring an approach by ski aeroplane, followed by a 21-day ascent on tour skis, during which the expedition was to be entirely self-sufficient. 2. The weather in the Icefield Ranges surround Mt Logan are extremely unpredictable and can delay access both on and off the mountain. Unfortunately, the expedition was thwarted in its attempt by both the weather and aircraft becoming unserviceable for 5 days, which resulted in insufficient time available for the mountain to be attempted. As a result, the expedition was re-planned and an alternative venue established, which was later changed again to maximise the time available. Consequently, the members of the team where flown to an area referred to as Pinnacle Peak, where day ski tours where successfully conducted. 3. Participation. The RAF Mountaineering Association (RAFMA), as a single Service multi-unit expedition, conducted the expedition under the auspices of the RAF Adventurous Training (RAFAT) scheme. The expedition comprised 8 climbers/skiers, see Annex A. 4. Objectives. Whilst the objective to climb Mt Logan was not achieved, this expedition proved extremely satisfactory in its flexibility to reschedule the activities and overcome arising issues in country. AIM 5.
