AbstractCurrently,thetopologyoptimizationbasedonfiniteelementstructuralanalysishasbeendevelopedmoremature,buttheproblemsofthetopologyoptimizationbasedonelementfreemethodstillhavemanyissuestoberesolved;suchascomputationalinstabilityandlowefficiency.BasedonelementfreeGalerkinmethodandSIMPinterpolationscheme,theadaptivetechnologyisusedforstudyingtwo-dimensionalcontinuumstructuretopologyoptimizationinthispaper.themaincoursesaresummarizedasfollows：Takingthedisplacementofthediscretenodeastheobjectoftheerrorestimates,andadoptingH1normtoposteriorierrorsolution,aposteriorierrorestimatesidentificationisusingtogetthehigh-errorregionsbasedonelementfreeGalerkinmethodstructuralanalysis.Thentheappropriateadaptivetechnologyisusedtoaddnodesinthehigh-errorregions.Bycomparingtheresultsofthedifferentadaptiveschemes,theresultsdemonstratedthattheselectedadaptivenoderefinementschemeintheadaptiveelementfreeGalerkinmethodisfeasible.Inresponsetotheproblemsoflowefficiencyandinstabilityresultsfromusingnodaldensityfordesignvariablesinthetopologyoptimization,anadaptivetechnologymethodisproposed,whichtakesthenodaldensityasthedesignvariablesandwithitsvaluesasajudgecriterion.Intheconditionofdispersingtheinitialdesigndomainwithsparsenodes,itisaccordingtothenodaldensitythatobtainedintheprocessoftopologyoptimization,andthenaddingnodesgraduallybytheadaptivenoderefinementschemewhichhasbeendemonstrated,andstoppingthenoderefinementuntilthedistancebetweentheadjacentnodesislessthanthefixedvalue.Inthisway,theefficiencyofoptimizationisimprovedbyreducingthedesignvariables.ThealgorithmisimplementedwithMATLAB,andnumericalresultsshowthatthemethodisfeasibleandeffective.Thenumericalinstabilitiesexistinadaptivetopologyoptimizationisanalyzed,andthefactorsofimpactonthecalculationaccuracyofEFGMisintroduced,andanewmethodforbackgroundmeshisbuilttosolvetheseproblems.Itcalculatestheenergynormerrorestimatesofbackgroundbyusingstresserrorindicator,andthencombinedwiththeradiusofinfluencedomainoftheweightfunction,tocalculatethe
