Research on Demand and Service System for Old Urban Residential Area Renovation Catering for the Elder People-With the Exemplification of Xi’anMajor: Engineering Economy and Management Name: Li BoInstructor: Professor Liu HuaAbstractAs a major field supporting the home-based care for the aged, the service system provided old urban residential area renovation for the elder people to meet the need of their daily life have not been formed in China. Against the backdrop of the ever-increasing ageing issues in cities, research on the demand and service system for old urban residential area renovation catering for the elder people (RCEP) has an important realistic influence on the development of home-based care for the elderly in China.Through conducting questionnaires among and analyses of nine old residential areas in Xi’an, we found that the major demands of RCEP involve installation of information sensing devices and emergency devices in housing for the aged, improvement of heat preservation and insulation of exterior wall, residential installation of elevators, barrier-free restoration in the residential entrances, nonskid surface treatment on the stair treads and the ground of corridors, extra installation of benches and outdoor sports centers in residential areas, barrier-free renovation in residential areas, establishment of community hospitals, senior citizens’ care centers and recreation centers serving the elderly nearby and provision of health care , life care services and spiritual concern for the elderly, etc.The key factors affecting the demands of RCEP include the service level of RCEP, family economic conditions of the elderly and support of the government. Through interviews, questionnaires and text analyses, we figured out 18 general factors affecting the demands of RCEP.
