The Effects of Different Variables in Relation to Cosmic Radiation不同的变量在的关系到宇宙辐射的影响

The Effects of Different Variables on Cosmic Radiation Presented by The Blue Group: Mr. Blombach, Ms. Troup, Ross Smith, Lea Wojciechowski, Samantha Derengowski, David Friesorger, Paul Mutka Purpose To determine whether altitude and horizontal velocity have a significant affect on the number of cosmic ray counts detected by a cosmic ray detector. Hypothesis We believe that as horizontal velocity increases, the number of detector counts will increase; as altitude above sea-level increases, the number of detector counts will also increase. Materials Stopwatch Airplane Cosmic ray detector Vehicle Digital camera Procedure Velocity Place detector in car and observe and record counts at one-minute intervals at speeds zero, 10, 20, and 50 miles-per-hour. Altitude Place detector on near-level ground and observe and record counts at one-minute intervals for ten separate trials. Ascend to 5,000 ft above sea-level and record counts after a one minute interval. Repeat step ii. at 7,500 and 10,000 feet above sea-level. Velocity Data… …and Analysis Our Calculated Error by the method Our horizontal velocity trial error data is 14% for each data point on the horizontal velocity vs. ray count graph. .14 or 14%; 50^(1/2) = 7.071, 7.071/50 = .1414 Altitude Data… …and Analysis Our Calculated Error by the method Our altitude trial error data is 1% for the average of four data points on the altitude vs. ray count graph. .01 or 1%; 800+5000+7500+10500 = 23800 23800/4 = 5950 5950^(1/2) = 77.136 77.136/5950 = .012 Conclusion The data from the velocity trials proved that our hypothesis was incorrect; an increase in velocity did not affect the number of counts on the cosmic ray detector. The data from the altitude trials, however, proved our hypothesis was correct; an increase in altitude caused an increase in the number of counts detected. Suggestions for Further Experimentation For further experimentation, it is noted that more testing on the shielding e
