Maintenance and Oversight Objective: To examine system “Ownership,” oversight personnel or committees, modification/maintenance authority, cost, continuing committee involvement Who is responsible for making the NSDI work? i) The government should take the lead in making the NSDI work. ii) Every member (signatory) of the NSDI is equally responsible to make it work. b) Who owns the NSDI? i) All Contributing partners/stakeholder should share ownership of the NSDI. c) How are policies, standards and protocols established and disseminated? After the review of exiting policies, standards and protocols of existing regional and international SDI’s. Examination and incorporation of existing conditions in regards to data restrictions/conditional use from contributing member organizations. iii) Evaluation of organizational stability and sustainability to maintain their own server and the ability to update their datasets. d) What are some important start-up policies, standards and protocols? Qualification for membership/partnership Data acquisition standards Organization data inventory Organizational stability e) Who should bear the cost of establishing the NSDI? i) The cost should be born by all initial members to the NSDI. f) What should be included in the Terms of reference for the body/group responsible for the NDSI? To ensure the optimum and uninterrupted functionality of the NSDI Maintain strong communication/networking within the NSDI partners Regulate Costing iv) Ensure timely modification to network (Hardware/software) g) How do we make this body operational?
