intertwined with each other, showing a heterogeneous colour in the theories. Benjamin depicts and describes the numerous visual representations in poetic language for us. Although Benjamin does not directly use the term of “visual culture”, he surfaces in the forefront of his age,and is keen to the spirit of cultural development.In theory and practice, he has made the best response and retrospection to his time. There is no doubt that these explorations provide a valuable guidepost which is beneficial for contemporary visual culture studies. This thesis is composed of introduction, body and conclusion, in which the body is divided into three chapters. Introduction briefly combs the current situation of research on Walter Benjamin both at home and abroad, and elaborates the purpose of this paper, methods of research and theoretical significance. The first chapter focuses primarily on the visual characteristics of visual culture, and discusses the intrinsic relationship between visual culture and Benjamin. Basing upon the perspective of the aura and the tremendous power in visual technology, the second chapter analyzes Benjamins thoughts of poetics strategy in visual culture.Chapter Three bases on dialectical image, from three dimensions, namely, the vision and aesthetic redemption, vision and consumption, vision and power, Benjamin explores the comb and mastering by Benjamin in the cultural representation of visual image. Finally based on the above discussion, the paper proposes a construction of Benjamin Visual Cultural Poetics and its possibilities, and also explores the influence and inspiration for literature and art in Benjamins visual culture theory.
