Methods We retrieved all susceptibility variants of bipolar disorder，used the multifactorial liability threshold model to evaluate the heritability explained by each susceptibility variants in bipolar disorder, and got the total heritability explanation degree of bipolar disorder through summing up the heritability explanation degree of each susceptibility variants. Then, we evaluated the missing heritability in bipolar disorder. Results The total heritability explanation degree of bipolar disorder by known susceptible variants was 37.86%. There were 62.14% of heritability has not been explained by known susceptibility variants, this can be considered the missing heritability of bipolar disorder. Conclusions The total heritability explanation degree of bipolar disorder we got was substantial increased from earlier similar study abroad. Although the missing heritability of bipolar disorder has been greatly reduced with constant discovery of new bipolar disorder susceptibility variants, the fact that it still exists and occupy a large part of the bipolar disorder heritability show that there are still many unknown bipolar disorder molecular genetic mechanisms need to be further clarified. 【Key words】 bipolar disorder;heritability; missing heritability
