AbstractEnglishtextbooks,usedbybothstudentsandteachers,havecontributedalottoEnglishteachingasthemajorreferenceoflearningandteaching.Thethesis,takingOxfordEnglish(ShanghaiEdition)ofGradeSevenasthesubject,adoptsthesystemevaluationapproachproposedbyProfessorChengXiaotang,andmakesadetailedanalysisfromtheinnerpartandexternalpart.Internalevaluationwillbeexecutedfromthefollowingfiveaspects:theteachingmethodsofthespokenmaterials;thecontentarrangementofthespokenmaterials;thedesignofthespokenmaterials;theauthenticityandgenuinenessofthespokenmaterials.Externalevaluationistoevaluateifthistextbookissuitableforusersbyissuingquestionnairesandinterviewing.ThequestionnairesaredesignedbasedontheevaluationsystemofCunningsworthandGrant.Besides,thewritermodifiedonetopicofspokenmaterialinthetextbookandcarriedoutatwo-weekteachingexperiment.ThetestdatawereanalyzedwithstatisticalsoftwareSPSS16.0,theresultsofwhichshowthattheperformanceoftheexperimentalclasshasimproved,indicatingtheadaptionofmaterialsiseffective.ThewriterfindsthatthespokenmaterialsofOxfordEnglish(ShanghaiEdition,Grade7)areinaccordancewiththeprogramandconceptionwhicharemadeforseventhgradestudents’abilityofcommunicationinspokenlanguageintheNewCurriculumStandard.Thespokenmaterialsarefruitfulandthesubjectsarecatchingupwiththetimes,meetingmostofthestudents’interestsandlivingbackground.Inaddition,mostoftheoralmaterialsarefairlyauthentic.Theproportionofthespokenmaterialsisreasonable.Thetopicsarefairlyinterestingandtheformsofactivitiesarediverse.Therearealsosomeshortcomingsthatsomeactivitiesaredesignedsocomplicatedlythatteachersarehardtocontrolthesituationforhavingnotsomuchin-classtime.Somespokenmaterialsarenotreallyauthenticornative-like,showingasignofrepeatinggrammarexercisesandlanguagepoints.Thematerialsfailtoconveystrategiesoforalcommunication.Processassessmentofthelearnershasn’tbeengivenmuchattention.ThespokencharacteristicsinthedialoguearenotshownenoughinthetextbookKeywords:OxfordEnglish(ShanghaiEdition,Grade7);spokenmaterials;
