AnEmpiricalStudyontheEffectivenessoftheMindMappingonEnglishMajors’ReadingComprehensionAThesisSubmittedtotheSchoolofForeignLanguagesShenyangNormalUniversityInPartialFulfillmentoftheRequirementsfortheDegreeofMasterofArtsByWangJingjingUndertheSupervisionofAssociateProfessorWuJinpingJune2014AcknowledgementsTherearemanypeoplewhohelpedmeintheprocessofmythesiswriting,soIintendedtoshowgreatthanksandrespectstothem.Firstofall,itismostgratefulthatmysupervisorMsWugavemesomuchadviceandsupportintheprocessofselectingthetopicandthecontentsofthethesis.Duringthecompletionofthisthesis,MsWualwaysputforwardinvaluablesuggestionsandspecificcommentsonmythesis.Secondly,Imustgivegenuinethankstoalltheteacherswhohavetaughtmeduringmypostgraduatestudyinthefieldofappliedlinguistics.Theirknowledgeandlecturesbroadenedmysightandenlightenedmyinterestinappliedlinguistics.Finally,Iwanttoexpressmysincerethankstomyfamilyandmyfriends.Withouttheirhelpandsupportintheprocessofcompletingthethesis,Icouldnotfinishthethesisintheend.AbstractReadingremainsaveryimportantpositionamongthefiveskillsoflistening,speaking,reading,writingandtranslating.ItisquitevitalforstudentstobecomeindependentandefficientEnglishreaders,cultivateagoodhabitofreading,increasetheabilityofcommunicativecompetence,andbroadentheirinsights.ThisthesisaimsatstudyingtheeffectivenessoftheMindMappingonEnglishmajors‘readingcomprehension.Meanwhile,thestudyintendstoprovideanewandefficienttoolforEnglishmajorsinreadingcomprehensionandforteachersinEnglishteaching.TheresearcherhaschosentwoparallelclassesofEnglishmajorsinthethirdyearofthestudyassubjectsintheexperiment,andemployedtheinstrumentsofquestionnaires,interview,andteststotestifytheeffectivenessofMindMappingonEnglishmajors‘readingcomprehension.TheexperimentalclasswastaughtbyMindMappingwhilethecontrolclasswastaughtbythetraditionalreadingmethods.FromthedataoftestsanalyzedbySPSS,theexperimentalclasshadmademuchmoreprogressinreadingcomprehensionthanthecontrolclass.Fromthepost-questionnaireandtheinterview,
