ABSTRACTSludgeproductionofconventionalactivatedsludgeprocessesishigh,thecostoftreatmentofthesesludgeaccountsforalargepartofthetotalcostofwastewatertreatment.Thetreatmentanddisposalofexcesssludgehasbecomeaheavyburdenofmanywastewatertreatmentplantsathomeandabroad.Thefinaldisposalsituationofexcesssludgeisverygrimduetotheincreaseinsludgeamount.So,economicallyrationalsolutiontotheproblemofsludgehasbecomeanimportanttaskofTheMunicipalIndustryandtheEnvironmentalProtectionIndustry.Conventionalsludgetreatmentanddisposaltechnologieshaveonlyconcentratedinthepost-treatmentofthesludgeproduced,whichcannotsolvetheproblemofhighsludgeproductionfundamentally.SludgeReductiontechnologyisanidealwaytosolvesludge-associatedproblems,whichrequiresunderthepremiseofwastewaterdischargemeetthewaterqualityrequirements,thewholesystemdischargestheleastamountofbiosolids.Inthepaper,basedontheOSAprocesswithlowenergyconsumptionandnosideeffectsontheenvironment,theauthorintroducethesludgeholdingtankofOSAprocessintoanoxic/oxic(AO)reactor,inordertoachievesludgereductionandnitrogenremovalatthesametime，andresearchthemechanismandenergyconversionofAO+OSAsludgereductionsystem.Inthistest,westudiedsludgereductioncapabilityoftheAO+OSAprocessindifferenthydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtankbychanginghydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtank.Theresultsshowsthatwhenthehydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtankare5.56h,7.14hand9h,thereduceofsludgeproductionare31%、22%and20%.Whenthehydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtankis5.56h，thelowsludgeyieldrateinmainreactionzoneandsludgedecay(causedbyhydrolysis,etc)insludgeholdingtankareallcontributetosludgereductionofAO+OSAsystem,andthecontributionofthelatterismore;Whenthehydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtankare7.14hand9h,mainreasonofsludgereductionaresludgedecay(causedbyhydrolysis,etc)insludgeholdingtank.Whenhydraulicretentiontimeinsludgeholdingtankare5.56hand7.14h,theintroductionofuncouplingtankbringtheabilityofAOprocesstoremovenitrogenandCODonnosignificantlyimpact;whenh
