The Great Gatsby —— 马春香 戚煜 王亚丽 王怡 吴凯莉 谢静 Jay Gatsby - The title character and protagonist of the novel, Gatsby is a fabulously wealthy young man living in a Gothic mansion in West Egg. He is famous for the lavish parties he throws every Saturday night, but no one knows where he comes from, what he does, or how he made his fortune. Gatsby was working for a millionaire made him dedicate his life to the achievement of wealth. When he met Daisy,he fell in love with her. Nick views Gatsby as a deeply flawed man, dishonest and vulgar, whose extraordinary optimism and power to transform his dreams into reality make him “great” nonetheless. From the novel, we can find that he looked Daisy as the embodiment of beauty, purity and nobility and he thought that being together with her is like the being at wonderland which represented all the beautiful things . Jay Gatsby was a son of shiftless and unsuccessful farm people in the middle west of USA. When he joined the army, he met Daisy, a beautiful woman from the upper class, and fell in love with her. Then, he took apart in the war and five years later when he came back from the Europe, Daisy had got married with a rich boy Tom. Gatsby could give up everything to pursue his ideal love and began his pursuing for forbidden fruit: a love to woman who had a husband. Gatsby tried his best to gain a chance to meet Daisy and get everything well prepared to greet Daisy. From Daisys words we know that she liked everything Gatsby prepared very much. However,He felt quite nervous and retreated at the significant moment. After that Gatsby went on holding parties to attract Daisy. DAISY: Is all this made entirely from your imagination? GATSBY: No. you see ,you were there all along in every idea in every decision. Of course ,if anything is not to your liking, I’ll change it. However, his thoughts were too idealistic, simple and naive. Like anyone else in that period, as a reality mortal, Daisy wanted not
