II II Acknowledgements It is a very long journey to reach the goal of accomplishing this thesis. The greatest enemy is doubtlessly my own laziness, which captured me from time to time. I would like to give my gratitude to my supervisor Prof. Chen Fachun. He is a great teacher who always kindly gave advice to my thesis and helped me to pin down my ideas. He is so patient towards my questions, encouraging me to probe deeper into the complex issues. He constantly helped me overcome difficulties with writing. I enjoy listening to his instruction. Without him, I cannot accomplish my thesis. I also would like to thank my friend Zhou Rong for her encouragement and insightful suggestions. On many occasions when I felt extremely frustrated and upset with the thesis, it was she who encouraged me to overcome the negative emotions and continue my writing.
