三峡大学硕士学位论文三峡大学硕士学位论文 PAGE III PAGE III Abstract The American writer Dan Brown has composed a series of detective fictions since 1998, including Digital Fortress, Angels and Demons, Deception Point, The Da Vinci Code and the latest one—The Lost Symbol. The sale of his books has created the new record of the bestsellers. Especially for The Da Vinci Code, as Dan Brown’s representative book, it has been the most successful of his bestsellers. This novel touches upon many aspects, including religion, architecture, history, sexism, etc. Besides, it is full of suspense and mysteries, grabs the readers successfully by tickling their curiosity. Moreover, quite a few researchers and critics have made detailed analysis of this book from the perspectives of feminism, religion, narratology, etc. This thesis attempts to interpret Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code from the perspective of ecological ethics, intending to explore how the author’s ecological concern is expressed through analyzing the unbalanced state of the past world and reconstructing the harmony on order to retain the spiritual home of human beings. The paper consists of five parts. Chapter One is an analysis the background of the composing of the novel and the present research situation of this novel both at home and abroad. Chapter Two introduces the background of ecologism and some key ethics of it. Chapter Three interprets the context the novel in details to analyze the ecological consciousness from two dimensions of the past world and the world at present. Chapter Four is an interpretation of the leading characters’ quest for the Grail and the reconstruction of harmony in this process. In the last chapter, the author of this paper concludes with the final results of this research and points out the ecological significance of the present research.
