Abstract: Non-linguistic context always plays a crucial role in translation process. The translator needs to coordinate and balance his own strategy of translation in accordance with the specific non-linguistic context. On the basis of the scholars’ research towards non-linguistic context, by means of systematic analysis of the foreign and domestic theories of non-linguistic context and translation and various examples, the thesis illustrates and analyses the close relationship between non-linguistic context and translation, to offer elaborate explication of non-linguistic contextual factors that are involved in successful translation. Key words: translation; non-linguistic context; situational context; background context 非语言语境对翻译的影响 摘 要：非语言语境因素在翻译过程中起着至关重要的作用。译者要根据特定的非语言语境来进行协调和权衡，决定自己的翻译策略。本文在借鉴诸多学者对非语言语境已有成果的基础上，采用论述非语言语境和翻译的中外理论和举例分析的手段，剖析非语言语境因素与翻译活动之间的密切联系，对非语言语境因素的各个方面在翻译过程中所起的重要作用进行了详尽论述。 关键词：翻译；非语言语境；情景语境；背景语境 Introduction Translation is the activity not only between two languages, but also between different cultures and contexts. For centuries, translation has been merely viewed to take place between languages. Accordingly, more emphasis has been put on linguistic fidelity, resulting in the loss of the “flavor” of the source text. Actually, the cause which leads to mistranslation is not the misunderstanding of the linguistic environment of the source text, but the neglect of non-linguistic context. Translation is an activity of reproducing in one language the ideas that have been expressed in another language. And language is the carrier of the culture as well as a part of the culture. Thus at least two languages and two cultures are involved in this process. In translation, translators always pay more attention to linguistic context and neglect non-linguistic context which is more obscure.
