His novels belong to the most valuable part of critical realistic works of 19th century. In 1812, Dickens was born at land-port, a harbor located in the suburb of Portsmouth, and followed by a joyful childhood, but his father, a staff of navy military supply office who used to live in an easeful and comfortable life like a gentleman, failed to manage the finance and finally entered the jail due to getting into debt. Dickens had to stop his happy childhood and started to work to feed his family. Such an experience in his life made him understand the misery of the poor living at the bottom of the society and he felt sympathetic to the helpless children and hungry poor people. Dickens was filled with loathing and indignation at the rich people in the upper class of the society. Through the unremitting endeavor, he became a reporter of?“Record Morning Paper” and started his profession of literary creation.During his profession, he creates many kinds of works, such as: novel, essay, travel notes, drama and so on. Most of the protagonists in his works are zilches squeezed out by society, so critics called Dickens?“the poet of the poor” at that time.B. The Plot of the NovelA Tale of Two Cities, taking the French Revolution as its background is one of Dickens’ greatest works. In this novel, Charles Dickens creates a gripping story line and makes the French Revolution of 1789 alive. The story begins with Mr. Lorry’s meeting Lucie Manette at Dover. He tells her that her father, Dr. Manette, recently released from the Bastille, is housed in the Defarges wine-shop and has lost his memory. After meeting her father, she uses her love to awake her father and finally brings him back to London. Five years later, Charles Darnay is impeached
