Abstract With increasing of population and more recognition took in environmental protection, the amount of municipal sewage treatment plants increases. As a result, yield of sludge increases. Well concentrating and dewatering properties are important condition of improving sludge disposal efficiency. Some researches indicate that ultrasound can improve dewatering and settling properties of sludge. Accordingly, ultrasonic technique gained much attention in the research of sludge reduction. In this paper, by using different frequency（40KHz、530KHz、880KHz）、different intensity（800W/m2、1000W/m2、1200W/m2）and different disposal time（0~6min）, centrifugal dewatering property and CST of disposed sludge indicate that by three different intensity the dewatering property descends except under the condition of 880KHz. The optimal conditions of improving sludge dewatering property are as follows： frequency of 40KHz, intensity of 800W/m2、disposed for 1.5min. From the experiment, dewatering property of sludge differs from different ultrasound frequency and different intensity. One intensity is optimal under one given frequency, but not another. All curves including centrifugal dewatering curves and CST curves indicate that ultrasound disposal time affect much on dewatering property of sludge. Comparing dewatering property of sludge disposed by three different intensity ultrasound, condition under 880KHz ultrasound is optimal both by criterions of centrifugal dewatering property and CST. Furthermore, position of curves reverses under 40KHz and 530KHz. The reason may be types of ultrasound reactor different, accordingly, affecting the dewatering property of sludge. From the changing range of centrifugal dewatering property curves and CST curves, it is obvious that low frequency ultrasound takes more affects on dewatering property of sludge than intermediate frequency.
