Research on the Laser Range Finding by Using a 1\vo-Beam Splitting Triangle Method ABSTRACT Laserrange 伽ding (LRF) is one of the main methods of noncontact range fmding，and has been applied widely in bo出 civil and military fiel也. In order ωdecrease 由e effect of environment and ωminiaturize the size of 曲。 laser finder with traditional triangle method，a novel two-beam spli忧ing triangle method (TBS-TM) for LRF is proposed in 由e present paper. Some factors 伽at affect the precision of LRF，such as nonlinear re1ation between object and image，surface optical properties of object， aberration of optical system and transmission in atmosphere，are discussed in detail. ηle elec仕ic devices suchωCCD or PSD，which are not suitable for miniaturization ，are adopted in 由e traditional triangle method in LRF. 白le TBS-1M is employed for our laser range finding. A detecωr consist of two PIN photodiode is arranged for receiving 伽 two splitting beams， and 也e distance between a ta咆et object and 址le range fmder can be calculated from the power ratio of the two splitting beams. 日 An analytical relationship among 也e power ratio of two section beams，the corresponding range and the emission angle，is derived from the photometry and Gaussian beam 由eory. After several numerical calculations ，some fi部rres are plotted ωshow these relations. ηle TBS-TM laser range finder is possessed of the merits of simple structure，small size，high resolution and less sensitive to the darkness of the target object. Some real laser range finders with the TBS-TM have been fabricated to meet the demand of our cooperation partner.
