St. Patricks Day St. Patricks Day, colloquially St. Paddys Day or Paddys Day, is an annual feast day which celebrates Saint Patrick (circa 385–461 AD), one of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on March 17. Brief Introduction The day is the national holiday of Ireland. It is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Montserrat, and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the rest of Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and New Zealand, it is widely celebrated but is not an official holiday. Celebration On Saint Patricks day, American people usually hold a procession, church service and dinner. American Irish people like wearing three-leaf clover, decorating rooms with yellow color, wearing a green dress, and guests will receive a three-leaf clover accessories, etc. Typical Representative Shamrocks A kind of oxalis with three slices of heart-shaped leaves representing the Holy Trinity —— the father , the son , and the holy spirit. The St. Patricks Day custom came to America in 1737. It was in Boston where the Day was first celebrated in a public way.
