T he river b asin lies in hum id 2 semit rop ical mo nsoon clim at e region w ith a catchment area of 160 000 km . T he Pingluo R iver is one of t he largest t ribut aries of t he X ihan shu i R iv er w it h a cat chm ent ar ea of 741 km 2 . T he climat e condit io n of t he Pingluo R iv er b asin is dif ferent f rom t h at of t he Dat ong R iv er . It has arid cl im aat e and less precip it aion . Bo th river basin s are t yp ical cat chment s of the Jialing River w ith dif ferent g eo logical, physiogr aphic and cli- mat ic condition s .
