The earliest form can be traced back to some unknown poems carved into the walls of the barracks on Angel Island, where the immigrants from China were locked up before being permitted to enter America between 1910 and 1940. Over the past half century，Chinese American literature has got remarkable development and great achievement. Large quantities of influential American writers of Chinese descent，such as Sui Sin Far, Frank Chin, Maxine Hong Kingston and Amy Tan etc，have emerged on the stage of American literature. These writers have exerted themselves to express and define the unique and ever-evolving Chinese American experience. Amy Tan is a very good case in point. As an outstanding figure in Chinese American literature, she has written several novels concerned mostly the living conditions of Chinese women, among which, The Joy Luck Club, is her most popular work. This novel quickly attracted the mainstream readers’ attention after publication and remained the bestseller among American novels for nine months. Moreover, its adaptation into a film was also a commercial success, which contributed substantially to her becoming a most well-known Chinese American writer. It should not be surprising that Chinese American literature has broadened the domain of the critics’ academic research. Due to the cross-cultural topic and the unique experience, more than one focus in this field are presented and discussed heatedly, among which, the changing images of Chinese American men depicted in the autobiography possibly have aroused the critics’ interest most. About forty papers concerning this were introduced during the past three decades in the three leading Chinese literary periodicalsForeign Literature Studies, Foreign Literature Review, and Foreign Literaturesand in
