As the backbone of the ancient Chinese philosophy, Taoism will naturally have an impact on environmental legislation. In environmental legislation, successive rulers of ancient China gave response to the “nature and humanity” of Taoism to achieve the goal of good ecology. The fourth part of this paper is about the response to the “nature and humanity” of Taoism in the Chinese contemporary environmental legislation. After the analysis of the achievements and shortcoming in the response of contemporary environmental legislation to Taoism, this paper gives some advice. The Taoist idea of “nature and humanity” should be referred to by contemporary environmental legislation for it has played an important role in the social and ecological civilization construction in ancient China. It has important implications not only in the thought and purpose of contemporary environmental legislation but also in the environmental legal system principle and the environmental legislation system.
