Central China Normal University; School of Economics and Business Management， Central China Normal University; Abstract： Based on the microeconomic survey data of farmers in 16 provinces， we conducted empirical research on farmers demands for agricultural insurance and its affecting factors. On a nationwide basis， the improvement of educational level could promote the increase of the percentage of insuring. Besides, agricultural income， farmers knowledge of agricultural insurance and percentage of damage caused by natural disaster were all significantly positively associated with farmers willingness towards agricultural insurance. On the contrary, the proportion of agricultural income, total family income and frequency of natural disasters did not show any remarkable correlation with farmers’ willingness towards agricultural insurance. Thus， the authors suggested that we could focus on simplifying the approval process of agricultural insurance, stepping up publicity efforts on the knowledge of agricultural insurance， increasing the category of agricultural insurance, accelerating large-scale agricultural operations, execution of providing subsidies and other endeavors in order to improve the demand for agricultural insurance and stabilize agricultural production.
