Unit 9 What does he look like? (Section A 1a~2c)

一.Teaching aims:
1.To teach students to learn to ask about people’s looks.
2.To teach students to learn to describe people’s looks
3.To make students be able to recognize people according to the description of their looks.
二.Key teaching emphasis:
1. What does he look like?
—She’s thin. She’s of medium height, and she has long straight hair.
2. Is he short or tall?
—She is tall.
3. Does Sally have long or short hair?
—She has long straight hair.
三.Teaching procedure:
Step 1: Leading in: Role play (by showing a cartoon picture on PPT at the same time)(2mins)
Show a cartoon picture which tells the story of the human traffickers and then ask the students what is happening and what should they do. Some students may say they should call the police and tell them what the human traffickers look like. By doing this, teacher could introduce the topic of this unit.
Step 2: New words learning (4 mins)
Divide the new words into three categories (height, build and hair) and teach them one by one.
T: Who is he?
S: He is Yao Min.
T: Yes, he is. What does he look like?
S: He is tall.
Step 3: Describe people’s look in the picture of 1a. (2mins)
T: Now, let’s meet some new friends. Open your book and turn to P49. Look at the picture in 1a. How many people are there in this picture? Do they look the same? If not, what do they look like?
T: What does A look like?
S: She is short. She is of medium build. And she has long straight hair.
Step 4: 1a. (3mins) Have students to do it individually and then check the answers by asking and answering.
Step 5: 1b (2 mins)
T: Now we’ve known all the people in 1a very well. Can you guess what are the two girls doing?
S: They are waiting for a friend.
T: Can you guess, who is Amy’s friend?
S: …
T: Okay, I am not sure either. So let’s liste
