A bs A bstract H igh-throughput catalysis technology is the application of com binatorial m ethodology in catalysis.B eing differentfrom conventionalreactors,a high-through- put reactor has m any reaction channels, w hich can test m any catalyst candidates sim ultaneously.If a high-throughputreactor is used,it w illsave a lotof labor and tim e. H ence, this kind of reactors is especially useful in catalysis investigation. In the present research, a novel parallel fixed-bed flow through high-throughput reactor w as designed and constructed. T his parallel reactor can be fed w ith both gas and liquid reactants sim ultaneously. It can be used to investigate alltypes of gas-solid catalysis reactions. The reactor system com prises a liquid distribution system , a gas splitter, and a parallel reactor body.T he liquid distribution system could divide one stream of liquid flow into 36 equalstream s (6×6).T he gas splitter could splitone stream of gas flow to 36 equal stream s (6×6). T he reactor has 36 reaction channels, w hich could test 36 catalysts each tim e. The N -m ethylation of aniline w ith dim ethyl ether w as used as the test reaction to verify the feasibility of the high-throughput reaction system .A fter tested,the reactor system gave results based on aniline conversions of about ±10% errors am ong channels.O nly one of the reactor channels gave a relative error of 13% . This channel w as not used in the later testing of catalysts. A fter proving that our parallel reactor could give m eanfulresults,the reactor w as used to investigate catalysts w ith different supports and different active phases. In the investigation, H ZSM -5, γ-A l2O 3, SiO 2, S B A -15,H Y ,Silica gel,and S ilica-A lum ina gel w ere tested as catalystsupports,w hile C r2O 3,M nO 2, Fe2O 3, C oO , N iO , CuO ,ZnO ,A g,B i2O 3, and CdO w ere tested as the active phases for aniline m ethylation. ZnO /H ZS M -5(Si/A l=40) w as proved to be the bestcatalyst.The c
