Effects Effects of Waterborne Mn(II)on Growth，tissue biochemical composition and immunity in Scophthalmus maximus Author：HE Zhongwei Supervisor：Associate Professor GONG Chunguang Major：Aquaculture Abstract Nowadays，most of the Turbot(Scophthalmus maximus)farming in China mainly depends on an”underground water+natural seawater”breeding mode．However,there is high concentration of manganese(Mn)in groundwater of the main culture areas in our country(Shandong，Hebei and other places)，and the manganese in the anoxic groundwater environment usually exists in the form of divalent manganese，that is，Mn(II)．Turbot reared in these areas often appeared unexplained growth delay,poor health，prone to illness and high mortality,which could be related to high concentration of Mn(II)in the aquaculture water．In the present study,a 28 d growth trial ofjuvenile turbots(initial body weight 5．0a：1．0 g)was conducted in 40 L aquarium with gradient Mn(II)level(0．04 mg／L， 0．08 mg／L，0．16 mg／L，0．32 mg／L，0．64 mg／L，1．28 mg／L，2．56 mg／L，5．12 mg／L，and 10．24 mg／L)in the water to investigate the effects of Mn(II)on growth performance，immunity and tissue biochemical composition in juvenile turbot．The water temperature was set in 14～16。C．The results showed that less than 2．56 mg／L ofMn(II)in the water didn’t affect (or even promote)growth rate of turbot in the 28 d short-term compared with the contr01． The best growth was observed in O．64 mg／L waterborne Mn(111 group．The AKP and SOD activities in the liver of turbot increased with increasing Mn(II)concentration，within less than 0．64 mg／L．When Mn(II)concentration is above 0．64 mg／L in the water,however, AKP and SOD activities decreased dramatically．The highest activities of AKP and SOD was shown in 0．64 mg／L waterborne Mn(II)group．When Mn(II)concentration surpasses 0．64 mg／L in the water,the LZM activity in fish liver began to decrease，and subsequently reached the lowest with the continuous increase of Mn(II)．The Na+．K+-ATPase activity in fish liver first
