They’re Playing Our Song It is usual at international soccer matches to play the national anthems of the competing teams. The players line up in the center of the field and the anthems of their countries are played through loudspeakers. It is a kind of courtesy given to visitors from other countries. A few years ago, Greece was playing Korea in an important international soccer game. As is often the case with international sports events, the game was not played in either teams home country. It was played in a third, neutral country. As the two teams walked onto the field, music was played to the crowd over the loudspeakers. The visiting Korean players immediately stood to attention. They all thought it was the Greek national anthem. The Greek players knew it was not their national anthem, but they stood to attention too. They thought it was the Korean national anthem.
