Abstract The dynamicload often leads tothefailureanddamageof thekey components such asgears and shafts. It can be divid
ed the dynamic torque into the average torque and the additional torque. Thecalculationmethod of dynamic additional load is presented
under the excitation of engine based on the angular displacement of shafts caused by thetorsional vibration in powertrain. The dynamic
torque acted on shafts, couplings and gearswere derived in and themethod was given tojustify the knock noiseof tooth surface between
meshed gears. Fora vehicular powertrain, calculation of dynamictorque acted on main partswas completed, and experiments were also
carried out tovalidatethe calculation result. The example gave a theoretical analysis for the damping effects of Geislinger elastic cou
pling. The study aimed to predict thedynamicload characteristicand providethe guideforthe dynamic design and structuremodification
