Abstract: The principle of set pair analysis ( SPA) has been attempted to appl yto the relation of flood peak and
volume. According to the data from Zipingpu station in theM inRiver, analysis of the relation for flood peak and
volume studiedw ith the SPA has been compared w ith the traditionalmethods. The results showed that their solu
tionswere consisten,t but the presented method of set pair analysis is simpler and easier. Themethod can displa
the form of relation visually, and so be potentialsuperior in practice.
